CoQ10 – Make use of the ENERGY from your FOOD
As we mature, certain physical changes are bound to occur. One of the changes we all need to address is the reduction of supplies of certain molecules which influence our metabolism. The energy we derive from food is not obtained instantaneously. There are a series of events and reactions that need to occur before we reap the benefits of the energy from our food.
Our cells contain little powerhouses called the “mitochondria”. These little structures are responsible for making available the energy needed from activities such as breathing to creating this blog post. CoQ10 is needed for the mitochondria to be effective in releasing the energy from our foods so that we can actually utilize it. Many recent scientific studies are pointing to the fact that as one gets older, the levels of CoQ10 decline. It has also been demonstrated that those suffering from heart disease and cancer have very low levels of CoQ10 in their body. It makes sense that supplementation is a viable option in both treating health conditions as well as preventing them.
The naturally occurring form of CoQ10 is ubiquinol. We can take in CoQ10 by eating organ meats such as liver and kidney, however, it is often not enough. CoQ10 is notoriously very difficult to absorb. The ubiquinol form of CoQ10 is absorbed much better than ubiquinone making it the logical choice for efficient supplementation.
